According to Hainan Daily, the unveiling ceremony of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) Hainan Nuclear Power Co., Ltd was formally held in Haikou City on the morning of Dec.9, which marked the eye-catching nuclear power project in Hainan Province has entered the substantive operation phase.

CNNC Hainan Nuclear Power Co., Ltd was jointly invested by CNNC and China Huaneng Group. The company will be in charge of the construction, debugging, operation and safety management of the nuclear power project. At present, the company has substantively launched land compulsory expropriation, water, electricity, road and communication access and leveled site, negative digging, long-period equipment order, and production and living facilities construction.

According to Director of the Comprehensive Planning Department of CNNC Li Jinying, the project consists of two phases. It’s planned the first phase project will build two sets of 650,000KW nuclear power units, with an overall investment of around 16 billion yuan. The second phase construction will be launched subsequently in line with the electricity demand in Hainan Province. High-quality, safe and reliable 2G (2^nd generation) nuclear power technology is projected to be adopted.

The startup of the project will not only bring more than 16 billion yuan near-term investment, and thousands of billion yuan long-term investment, but also be conducive to optimizing the power supply structure, environmental protection and ecological construction in Hainan Province. Thus, it’s a favorable choice for Hainan Province to meet the energy demand in its sustainable economic development.
